More about Kay Gimmestad
Kay Gimmestad is a Business Coach and Clinician with 20 years of experience working in the profit and not-for-profit sectors of Human Resources, Behavioral Health and Employee Relations. She has built a reputation for being highly skilled in facilitating behavior change while working with employees, both individually and in groups, on matters related to performance management, substance abuse, workplace violence, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, stress/wellness, work/life balance and communication skills, leveraging her counseling experience and academic credentials in clinical social work.
In her 20 years of serving hundreds of clients, Kay had successfully helped individuals acquire strategies for building resilience, adopting new coping behaviors and effectively managing challenging transitions. These skills have been particularly valuable for employees and managers still reckoning with a post pandemic workplace. Kay has worked with managers on creating a productive work-life balance structure to address employees’ needs for a hybrid work environment.
Kay has held extensive assignments coaching traumatized employees in the aftermath of major crises, including the September 11th attacks, the 2009 market collapse, Garden State Mall Shooting, Short Hills Mall Carjacking and the 2015 Home Depot Shooting in Chelsea, NYC. These experiences uniquely qualify and enable Kay to make a positive impact when working with companies during a crisis in the workplace. During these engagements, Kay has also helped employees reduce survival guilt and helped them make significant improvements to resume normal activities.
As a result of these life changing assignments, Kay helped stabilize and normalize the effects these tragic events and other organizational issues had on employees for a wide range of clients for such companies as: UBS, UPS, Cigna, National Grid, Time Inc, New York University, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York University Medical Center, Essential Learning, The United Way, International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC), Robert Braverman & Associates and Eastern Effects.
Kay has been a tireless champion for change and empowerment, which led her to form her own consultancy in 2007, The Gimmestad Consulting Group followed by Work for Solutions. As part of her more recent work, Kay has been training other therapists and clinicians to build their private practices. Her professional skills workshops aim to guide professionals to achieve their potential and personal best as they evolve in an ever changing marketplace.
Kay has earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University School of Social Work and is credentialed as a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).
